In the Gallery - Meditative Abstraction a solo exhibition of paintings by Phylicia Eileen Tierney In-Person
With decades of living in New York City, Tierney has been drawn to the geometric forms and arrangements of the buildings and streets. Using this as inspiration, along with the urban environment's constant state of motion, Tierney has produced energetic worlds for the viewers to fall into, walk through and experience firsthand. Using color, line and geometric forms, she creates balanced, grid-like compositions meant to simulate both the order and chaos of the city environs. Meditative Abstractions contains more than four bodies of work, created over the past nine years of her career. With rhythmic arrangements and repetitive forms, the production of her work places her "in a meditative space." Although Tierney's work has evolved over the years, the shapes and sharp edges still dominate her style. Living in a time when we are in a constant state of overstimulation, this artist's work allows the viewer to step away from reality and enjoy art as a quiet, thoughtful experience, even as the order borders on the chaos.
Phylicia Eileen Tierney is best known for her geometrical abstract paintings. She graduated from FIT with an Associates in Fine Arts, Bachelors in Visual Arts Management, and holds a Masters in Art Education from SVA. She has recently shown her work in several group exhibitions in New York. Phylicia lives and works in Scarsdale, N.Y.
