How Decluttering & Downsizing Done Right Can Strengthen Family Connections In-Person

This ~40-minute presentation is designed for both retirees and adult children in our community who are beginning to consider (or are actively navigating) the downsizing process for themselves or others, whether they are actually moving or not. Rather than focusing solely on logistics, this talk highlights how a thoughtful, well-planned approach to downsizing can actually strengthen intergenerational bonds—creating opportunities for storytelling, legacy sharing, and collaborative decision-making.

Topics Covered Include:

  • The emotional and relational dynamics behind downsizing (whether just reducing belongings or moving)
  • Common pitfalls families encounter—and how to avoid them
  • Tools and conversation starters to engage aging parents and adult children
  • Steps to turn downsizing into a shared project rather than a point of conflict

This presentation will provide attendees with compassionate strategies, expert guidance, and concrete next steps—something many in our community are quietly struggling to figure out.
