Read in Rye: Janet Rivkin Zuckerman, Ph.D. In-Person
Join Janet Rivkin in her discussion of her recent book, Nasty Women: Reclaiming the Power of Female Aggression, A Psychoanalytic Perspective
This presentation will address the troubled relationship between women and their aggression, one burdened by age-old patriarchal forces that pressure women to forego self-assertion, remain passive and disparage their ambition and voice. These misogynistic cultural mandates invade a woman’s mind and compel her to sacrifice her goals and dreams. In so doing, patriarchy ensures that unequal gender power structures remain securely anchored in place. The critical question of how a woman can ever succeed in this disabling environment, is addressed in my book by my interviews with 6 highly influential women who reimagine their own “nastiness” as a vitalizing tool that ushers in their success. A derogatory sexist slight, “nasty” is thereby transformed into a positive force that galvanizes women and positions them to make a meaningful mark on the world.
Janet will bring copies of her book for those interesting in purchasing it with Zelle or a personal check.
