In the Gallery - Five Artists, Five Perspectives In-Person
This fall, the Rye Library is proud to present Five Artists, Five Perspectives, a watercolor exhibition celebrating the unique voices of five women who met through Brigitte Loritz’s Rye Art Center watercolor class and have been painting together ever since. This collection brings together the work of Jane Canning, Bonnie Cotnoir, Dolly Kacha, Laura Lavan, and Sally Tobin—five artists united by friendship and shared creative practice, yet each offering a distinct and deeply personal artistic perspective.
What began as a classroom connection has blossomed into a vibrant and supportive community of painters. Over time, their individual voices have evolved and flourished, enriched by regular exchange, critique, and encouragement. Though they often paint side by side, their work reflects five very different artistic paths. From quiet landscapes to bold abstractions, delicate washes to expressive gestures, each artist reveals a singular vision shaped by personal experience, aesthetic curiosity, and a commitment to the expressive possibilities of watercolor.
This exhibition is not just a celebration of five talents—it’s also a testament to the power of artistic community. Five Artists, Five Perspectives invites viewers to explore how one medium can give rise to many interpretations, and how friendship and shared exploration can inspire growth, courage, and beauty.
