Hear from Dr. Cynthia MacKay, a board certified ophthalmologist, as she discusses LASIK surgery - from the potential benefits through the possible risks and complications. Dr Cynthia MacKay will share her knowledge about the procedure, which is explored in depth in the book she co-authored, "The Unsightly Truth of Laser Vision Correction : LASIK Surgery Makes Healthy Eyes Sick ". She has also written a memoir, "Making the Cut", about her life as a surgeon that explains how and why she decided to start speaking out about LASIK.
Dr. Cynthia MacKay practiced ophthalmology in New York City for 40 years. Her academic title is Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the Columbia University of Physicians and Surgeons (Emeritus). She is the Executive Producer of "Broken Eyes", a 2024 documentary about LASIK by PBS filmmaker Dana Conroy, who is herself LASIK-damaged.
