In the Gallery - Joel Carillet In-Person
In 2019, photographer Joel Carillet, an international photojournalist with a focus on the human condition, revisited a WWII plane wreck he had intitially seen as a child of missionaries in Papua, New Guinea. The images of the plane, crashed on April 5, 1944, are haunting, yet beautiful. The Havoc was piloted by 2nd Lt Thomas E. Freeman, along with Cpl Ralph A McKendrick, and both survived the crash. The plane laid, discovered in the jungle, until 1967.
The exhibiting photographer is not expected to be present at the opening of the exhibit, as he is currently documenting the War in Ukraine. A video of the discovery of Richard Bong's plane can be seen on youtube with photographer Carillet in the background of the opening shot , The title of the video is "Richard I Bong's Missing Plane Found After 80 years"
From Ms Piekos point of view, the purpose of the exhibit is to keep our military flight crews and military personel in our hearts and minds, and to raise the need for expeditions and explorations in search of our military members of all wars and campaigns. in order to bring them home.
Mr Carillet's works can be seen and JPEGs purchased on his website: JoelCarillet.com, and they span a much more all-encompassing global topic of Humanism.
