Mark Schenker - Uncle Vanya In-Person
Uncle Vanya (1899) by Anton Chekhov (1860-1904)
Chekhov's play about lost time, wasted lives, and impossible loves that was first produced in Moscow in 1899 has experienced a rebirth of sorts with several excellent New York productions over the past few years, some of which you may have seen. Many people consider Chekhov our greatest playwright after Shakespeare. The ability of his four great plays to speak to future audiences across different cultures is one reason why they never go out of fashion. This is the first Chekhov we have done with Mark. We are looking forward to what he has to say about the play itself and more broadly, Chekhov’s undeniably profound impact on changing the future direction of drama as a whole.
