In the Gallery Teresa Pereira -Painting Within

In the Gallery Teresa Pereira -Painting Within In-Person

“Painting Within” focuses on imagery that includes paintings within paintings, mirrored and other reflective images, and meta and Droste painting imagery. Most of the work in this collection are still life pieces, but because I love painting them, I’ve incorporated a couple of landscapes within the still lives.

“Meta-phorical Pears” is the most personal of the pieces in the group. A self portrait that is a comment about the effect that social media—especially Instagram—has had on how I think of and make art. I’m thrilled to have this piece and all my work In the Gallery at the Rye Free Reading Room.

Teresa is a painter, high school art teacher, graphic designer, and muralist who lives in Yonkers, NY. She graduated from Fordham University, College at Lincoln Center, with a BFA in Fine Arts, where she was awarded the Studio Art Award for painting. In addition Teresa is a community art teacher, holds art workshops in local libraries and for the Hudson River Museum and she is an active art exhibitor in galleries in the Westchester area and its surrounds.

In teaching art over the years—especially to teenagers—she has learned a great deal about her own art. Witnessing the experience of “learning to make art” is continually an eye opening one, and she believes it has helped her expand her own skills.

Her style is highly figurative and realistic, often with a slight to moderate hint of surrealism mixed in. She equally enjoys painting landscapes, portraits and still life—from life whenever possible, but also from photos. A lover of nature, her work often incorporates some botanical elements. Leaves, flowers, and trees frequently find their way into her art.

For the past year, with her two children away in college, she has been painting prolifically, and many of the paintings in this exhibit have been painted over the past year. She is excited to have her work shown In the Gallery at the Rye Free Reading Room.
