Adulting 101: Mock Job Interviews In-Person

Together with the YMCA, participate in a mock interview! Open to those 14, or turning 14, to 18 this year. Everyone will receive feedback following their interview.

All participants are asked to dress business casual, and be prepared for a 15 minute general interview for the following fake job:

Job Description

Summary
Under direct supervision of the Assistant Director, monitors condition of assigned library stacks, assists in training of new pages, and carries out library duties and related work, as required.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Monitors and reports shelving conditions to supervisor
  • Sorts books on truck in alpha/numeric order (Dewey Decimal System)
  • Shelves books in stacks in alpha/numeric order
  • Shelves media such as DVDs, Recorded Books & Music CDs in alpha/numeric order
  • Shelf reads to check for accuracy in the stacks
  • Straightens & tidies the library at closing
  • Shelves Magazines & Newspapers
  • Performs related tasks assigned by supervisors

 

Requirements
Knowledge of

  • Basic math, including decimals
  • English fluency

Ability to:

  • Evaluate shelving conditions and identify areas in need of attention
  • Explain shelving procedures
  • Understand & follow oral & written instructions
  • Communicate clearly with Managers
  • Learn Library rules, regulations & procedures
  • Arrange material in alphabetical & numerical order
  • Maintain a good working relationship with the public & fellow employees
